Vanessa Mae: violinist blocked due to Olympic start – Spiegel Online

Hamburg – The Olympic participation of violinist Vanessa Mae-Star at the Winter Games in Sochi last February was the result of a manipulation. This was confirmed by the International Ski Federation FIS and detained for four years. Mae had qualified in January at ski races in Slovenia for Sochi, the results now proved however to be forged.

“The four giant slaloms, which took place in Krvavec on 18 and 19 January were manipulated. This resulted in a calculation of F sharp points, do not reflect the actual performance of the athletes and especially Vanessa Vanakorn, “the FIS announced after investigations by the Hearing Panel of the Association.

The 36-year-old Mae was in Sochi under the surname of their father (Vanakorn) as the first female participant went for Thailand in the Winter Games at the start. There, she won the giant slalom the 67th and last place.

In qualifying a participant was counted in second place, although it was overthrown. Another driver is to be set off outside the Start cottage. The timing was triggered manually, when she was already on the track. The course was not changed as prescribed in the second round.

The decision Mae may appeal within 21 days appeal to the International Court of Justice Cas Sport in Lausanne. Back in July, the Slovenian Ski Association SZS had expressed the suspicion that results Maes were forged in Slovenia. Also Federica Selva from San Marino benefited from the manipulation and therefore qualified illegally for the Winter Games. The relevant hearing panel of Fis Fis-advised the Council to delete the results officially in his meeting on 18 November.

The SZS was suspended by its own admission, as part of its investigation into four Mae officials, including the chief the Alpine division. According SZS there was no evidence that Mae could have known of the possibility of manipulation.
