Against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine 13 US senators Fifa president Sepp Blatter has written an open letter. In this they are asking the world governing body to withdraw the orientation of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia.
Several US senators have the world governing body Fifa asked to move the football World Cup 2018 from Russia in another country. Since Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin break with his support of the separatists in Ukraine international law, the Fifa should it withdraw “the privilege” to host major sporting event, wrote 13 senators of both parties to Fifa -President Joseph Blatter, as US media reported.
“to allow Russia to host the World Cup, enhanced the prestige of the Putin regime unreasonably when it should be outlawed, and provides economic relief, while much of the international community, economic sanctions,” it said in the letter. The United States had failed as a favorite for the 2022 World Cup to Qatar. For 2026 US Association plans to run again.
Also, the Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko had called in March a world boycott. Fifa had rejected. Blatter had said after the recent meeting of the Executive Committee of the World Federation: “The World Cup will be held in 2018 in Russia working on the problems A boycott has never led to anything…” Russia had been awarded the role as host of 2010. To date accusations are alleged corruption at the World Cup award in the room.
