“Grand Slams, which is for the other” – Tages-Anzeiger Online

The sun also shines on the day after over Paris, as Stan Wawrinka shortly after eleven clock on the Seine bridge Bir-Hakeim with the Coupe des Mousquetaires posing – of course with the Eiffel Tower in the background. Then the champion goes again to the scene of his success. He answered at Roland Garros, where the clean-up work is already well advanced, journalists questions in English and French. The 30-year-old wearing a white shirt and still stubble, but does not work bleary-eyed. But his voice has suffered from the festivities.

How do you feel the next day?
Wonderful. And tired. Now that all the tension from me has fallen. I buzz still many images of finals through the head. I am so happy about what I have achieved. That I was able to beat in a Grand Slam tournament, the numbers 1 and 2 in the world again, is quite amazing.

How did you celebrate?
Good Question. If only I could remember. (Smiles) No, it was pretty quiet. I came back to 21 clock to the hotel, took me as an hour for me alone. Then there was a little party with the team, the family and friends. At The Hotel. I’m not the guy who pulls the whole night out on the town at such moments. I prefer relaxed.

What kind of reactions have you received from the world of tennis? Roger Federer has been reported to you?
Twitter I have not yet looked at. There’s so much running that I’ll probably never get to read everything. Too bad. Roger wrote me a SMS and tried after the match to call. But because I was too busy. Roger is always happy for me if I win something.

Does it feel different because this is your second Grand Slam title?
Yes, it feels different. In Melbourne it was all new, my life changed by total. But now I need a few weeks to realize what I’ve done. This was my second Grand Slam Final. Roger, Nadal, Djokovic already have 10, 15, 20 played such Finals. For me, these moments are absolutely exceptional. It is not normal to win Grand Slams. Not for me. I always thought: the Grand Slams, which is for the other

You have now left for Grand Slam titles players like Andy Roddick, Pat Cash and Thomas Muster behind.. How does that feel?
Surreal. Thomas Muster, I loved to watch him! These are all great champions. I would not count the same category as them. That I am set for major titles before them, I

can not quite believe it. You have won 1.8 million euros in prize money. How do you reward yourself?
The copy of the trophy, which I have received, is reward enough. A few days ago I talked with Magnus Norman (his coach, Ed.) About how we could bestow us if I would again get a Grand Slam title. We took ourselves that we buy something in common. But what we have not yet decided. I’ll let you know via Twitter, when we agreed.

What was the biggest construction site, the Magnus Norman has tackled with you?
When we started to work together, I had already been in the top 10, I had already won titles. I played very well tennis . It was about details, two or three small changes in my forehand. And all about, to believe in themselves. When we had our first planning meeting, in spring 2013, Estoril, we looked at the calendar, because he could not come anywhere. He crossed to the tournaments that fit him. Recently also the ATP Finals in London. I was number 19 in the world at that time. I said to him: What? The ATP finals? I play with it? He only nodded. There are many coaches who tell you the whole time, you were the best, you always knock on his back, completely exaggerated. With him it came naturally.

For years, made Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic all major titles among themselves. Was not that daunting? Did not you think: When will I get my chance
?
No, I thought not. Until two years ago I did not mind, to win Grand Slams. I just tried to be the best player I can be. And I consider it positive: If you look with such great players like Roger measures, Nadal, Djokovic or Murray, drives one at that, to become even better. They have set the bar so high that you know. You have to work even harder to drift more to the limits and always think about what you could still do otherwise

Mats Wilander said you were his favorite players. How important is it to you, not just to win, but to win with attractive tennis?
The important thing is to get the last spot. No matter how you play. But I enjoy my game well. Yesterday it has never felt on the court so well. I felt that my backhand worked perfectly, I could play the ball everywhere where I wanted. This feeling has not often. That to me this was achieved in a Grand Slam final, is very special.

Is there not a danger, now that you measure up to the high level that you were able to show against Djokovic?
No. I will not do. I know that this was exceptional. When you play against the best – against Roger, Djokovic, Nadal – then you are often frustrated not play his best tennis against them to be able to develop incorrectly. One has the feeling that one is never really in the match there. I have now learned to accept that. Because the best do it with their game, that you can never really feel comfortable. It is now possible to me, to ensure that they do not feel comfortable with me. This is a great confirmation. I felt that that was the case with Roger (quarter-final). And from the second set against Djokovic. He lost control, he suffered. That was an enormous feeling for me. This shows how high my level. But I will not take this final reference. Otherwise I can only lose.

Novak Djokovic has tentatively missed the career Grand Slam in Paris. Do you think it is possible for you?
No. I would have to do it first, I’d believe it. So I was working. I felt unable to win Roland Garros. Now I’ve done it, so I know that it is possible. But one should now remain on the ground. There are many others who are very, very good tennis. Djokovic has lost yesterday, but he is in this year in a different category than the others.

How did this experienced 15 days Paris? Did you feel to be right from the start in a bubble?
I was from the beginning very relaxed. It was not that I totally abschottete me and said: I’m going to win here and focusing entirely on this target. But I know myself well. I know the longer I am in the process, the more dangerous I will. The first big cliff was the match against Gilles Simon for me. And if I win a couple of matches in a tournament, I’m getting better. When I come in the final, I do not verpatze him. This does not mean that I would win it. But I know that I do not verpatze him

How long can you enjoy this triumph, until you turn to the grass season.? Wimbledon is the only Grand Slam tournament in which you have never been in the semi-final. How important is it for you to be successful there?
To have never been in the semi-finals at Wimbledon, that’s for a nice problem. (Laughs) I’ll now take it easy for a few days. The plan is to play next week in Queen’s. That’s the beauty and the difficulty at the same time tennis. If you lose early, you have the chance to make it better next week. But if you won, remains a not much time to enjoy it. One has to be ready for the next tournament again. It goes fast. Soon Wimbledon just around the corner. But I will soon take a few days to savor.
