Patrick Helmes does not return to the football field. After numerous injuries the 1. FC Köln striker ended his career. Football remains the 31 year old but maintained.
Last Patrick Helmes was only an observer. From the rostrum of the RheinEnergie stadium, the former football player looked at the roles of his 1. FC Köln. Once again a complicated injury had the striker incapacitated. A comeback this time it will not give. “After my injury I have worked very hard to go back once again to the place,” said the striker. “My body leaves the but not too and so it was now time to get a new orientation.” The empty phrases rang on Friday the retirement of a helmet. And the age of 31.
Helmes had still belongs to the First Team of Cologne in the past season, but played a competitive game for a persistent hip injury. Overall, he came for the FC in 95 games for use, scoring 47 goals. For the German senior team, he completed 13 international matches.
Helmes will remain the Cologne after his career end as an assistant coach of the Regional Team. “I am looking forward to the task with Martin Heck and Uwe Grauer at the U21, when I was last season already team sponsor, and about to be further at 1. FC Köln” commented Helmes his future task.
The 98-time Bundesliga player was thrown back by injury again and again. Among other things, a broken leg and two cruciate ligament tears are in the medical records of former Leverkusen and Wolfsburg player. But his heart is the club FC. As at VfL Wolfsburg he saw no future 2013 Helmes returned for a renewed commitment to his native city. He had twelve hits and seven assists instrumental in the Bundesliga return of the FC.
