Only five days after the disappointing performance in the Final Four of the Champions League THW Kiel has again reason to celebrate. The North Germans won the German handball championship thanks to a 33:29 (18:12) -Heimerfolgs against TBV Lemgo for the 20th time. It is the fourth title in a row. The Rhein-Neckar Löwen are again finished second.
The Mannheim won the Fourth SC Magdeburg 32:27 (17:15). Third place went to the SG Flensburg-Handewitt, the 32:29 (13:15) won at EHF Cup Winners foxes Berlin. While Kiel, the eligible “lion” and Flensburg for the Champions League, play Magdeburg, Frisch Auf Göppingen and defending Berlin in the EHF Cup. Relegated to the second Bundesliga are SG BBM Bietigheim that TSG Friesenheim and HC Erlangen and GWD Minden.In Kiel was celebrated before the game against Lemgo. Firstly Alfred Gislason was awarded for the fourth time to coach the season. On the other hand was in theory to take the THW only the championship. So let the professionals take it easy, even the ailing captain Filip Jicha could be spared. The THW was not his best performance, the win against Lemgo, who had survived until the last matchday from relegation, but never was in danger.
The record champion celebrated the tenth triumph since 2005. Only HSV Hamburg was in 2011 break the dominance of the “Zebras” in recent years. For Kiel it was however the only title of the season. In the Champions League the THW landed after off in the semifinals even only in fourth place. In DHB Cup was for Kiel in the quarter-final stage.
