Angelique Kerber wins at tennis tournament in Stuttgart – SPIEGEL ONLINE

Angelique Kerber has defended her title at the WTA tournament in Stuttgart. The Australian Open champion continued in the first German final of the tournament history against the qualifier Laura Siegemund 6: 4, 6: 0 and so celebrated its second tournament victory in this tennis year. After 1:21 hours Kerber turned her first match point. For Siegemund it was still the biggest success of her career. Never before had reached the final in a WTA tournament, the 28-year-old.

In the semi-final Kerber had against Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic 6: 2 enforced: 4, 4: 6,. 6 Siegemund had seeded number one Agnieszka Radwanska Polish surprising 6: beaten 2: 4. 6

Siegemund that had yet not set in the previous tournament, started strongly against Kerber and brought the big favorite in distress. Again and again she drew the titleholder with stops to the grid, and then to make the point in my praise or Passierball. Twice she was in the first round with a break forward, both times could counter Kerber. As Siegemund showed weaknesses, Kerber was on the spot and secured after 40 minutes with the second set ball the first round.
