Hertha BSC: re-torn ACL in Alexander Baumjohann – Tagesspiegel

09:57 clock Stefan Hermann

Bundesliga club Hertha BSC waive Alexander Baumjohann. The midfielder has again contracted in the last week in training a torn ACL. Baumjohann was almost failed the entire preseason because of the same injury.

The first diagnosis sounded pretty harmless. Nothing broken, just a sprain. This past Wednesday, Baumjohann had twisted his knee in training and then canceled the unit. But because the knee was still swollen, was a detailed investigation pending. The then afforded the devastating result: again torn ACL. On the same knee as almost to the day exactly one year. The end of August, 2013, after just four games for Hertha to Baumjohann had hurt in the Bundesliga match against VfL Wolfsburg shortly before the end when he slipped away on a piece of artificial grass off the pitch. Seven months of the signing of the first FC Kaiserslautern was put out of action.

It was not until the end of March, in the Arena Auf Schalke, he returned to Hertha’s first team. Behind Baumjohann was a long and hard recovery. The blooms him again now. When and where the 27-year-old will undergo surgery, is not yet clear.

In most cases a torn ligament pulls a downtime of at least half a year after themselves. Last season, Hertha was able to respond quickly even to the failure, loaned immediately before the transfer window of the midfield duo Tolga Cigerci and Per Skjelbred, which compensated for the loss of playmaker shiny. While Cigerci was committed after the season, Skjelbred returned after the loan back to Hamburger SV. The Berliners are still interested to retrieve the Norwegian national team, but so far they could not with the HSV agree on a transfer fee. It’s quite possible that manager Michael Preetz intensified efforts after the failure tree Johanns again – especially since Cigerci is still missing a few weeks due to a toe injury.
