Hamburg – the German bid to host the Summer Olympics in 2024 is facing stiff competition from the US. The Americans will go into the race to host the major event in ten years, the National Olympic Committee (USOC) announced in Redford, California. There the four bidders Boston, Washington, San Francisco and Los Angeles had presented their Olympic plans.
A decision which of the four cities the US wants to apply to fall in January. “We will take our time and select the city which we trust the greatest opportunities,” said USOC CEO Larry Probst.
Germany wants to apply with Hamburg or Berlin, the decision will be taken in March. Another candidate is Rome. It is still unclear whether Paris, Baku, Qatar and South Africa also apply. The US was last hosted the 1996 Summer Games, which had then taken place in Atlanta. Then were New York (2012) and Chicago (2016), each clearly failed in their applications.
