The Formula 1 Sport in Germany is facing a historic low: For the first time since 1960, the home race threatens to fail. At the Hockenheimring is expected no longer with implementation. A small glimmer of hope but it still.
For the German Formula 1 stars Sebastian Vettel and Nico Rosberg it will probably be this year for the first time no home race. “I do not expect that the Grand Prix will take place this year on the Hockenheimring. The deadline is actually expired. The quality of implementation is increasing day by day,” said Hockenheimring CEO Georg Seiler.
In order for the planned July 19 Grand Prix of Germany is finally on the brink of. Although Seiler said: “We love the Formula 1.” But he also made it clear: not at any price. “Without financial support are our hands tied,” said the chief of course. Until last Seiler had speculated on that Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone struggling to do so by the financial risks and takes over. But this was not one to Tuesday afternoon. A loophole Seiler was, however, still open: “If Mr. Ecclestone would call tomorrow, we would have a new situation, but I do not believe..”
Even if would be a smooth implementation in an already difficult environment hardly longer possible. “We’ve already lost three or four months for ticket sales. Including the lucrative Christmas sales fell,” Seiler stated, “and we want in 2016 and 2018 do not interfere with moderate implementation this year our firm terminated race.” By 2018, the contract is still running at the Hockenheimring with Ecclestone. “And we want next year a nicely filled house with two Germans on the podium,” Seiler said.
Because of the financial state of permanent crisis of the Nürburgring, the alternate annually between the two German race tracks actually in July in the series would have been Hockenheim should stand in this year. Bernie Ecclestone had towards English media explained yet on Monday that the Hockenheimring was the only option for the Germany Grand Prix now.
Offer to Bernie Ecclestone
However, still waiting for the new operating company of the Nürburgring on a signal from Ecclestone. “The situation has not changed. We have not yet available cancellation, so we assume that everything is still possible,” said spokesman Peter Nuvoloni. Ecclestone have before me the offer, “he knows under what circumstances we may perform the race. We are even willing to accept a manageable loss,” Nuvoloni said.
More aboutThe two German traditional circuits are struggling with dwindling attendances. The race has been run in 2014 at the Hockenheimring due to the low interest fell by 2.5 million euros. On race day just 52,000 spectators arrived at the track.
If the German race should definitely fall victim to the red pen, it would be the first time since 1960 that no Grand Prix taking place in Germany. For the failed race there would be no replacement event, according to Ecclestone, the season would thus comprise only 19 World Championship races
Not only for Vice World Champion Nico Rosberg is a season without a home race hard to imagine. “Since I can remember, there is a Germany-Grand-Prix. That would be very disappointing for everyone, for drivers, teams and of course the fans. ” Also for the champion team Mercedes heard the race “to the most traditional events of the season.”
