Votes for the 2006 World Cup to have been purchased. DFB has accusations

Zurich / Frankfurt / Main. Football’s world governing body Fifa will investigate the allegations on the alleged vote-buying in the award of the 2006 World Cup in Germany. “These are very serious accusations,” the Fifa said on Friday evening. You have forwarded the case to the Audit and Compliance Commission. Previously, the “Spiegel” had reported using a slush fund of the German World Cup candidates the votes had been bought by four Asian members of the FIFA Executive Committee. This will now be examined as part of the ongoing independent internal investigation, it was said by the World Association. Together with the European representatives Germany came in the crucial vote on twelve votes. On Mitkonkurrent South Africa accounted for then eleven. The New Zealander Charles Dempsey had abstained.

The German Football Association DFB had the evening the allegations of irregularities in the awarding of the World Cup 2006 “firmly rejects”. He had initially conceded absurdities around a payment of 6.7 million euros to the World Association in a press release on Friday. There have however been no evidence “that votes were bought by delegates in the course of the application process,” it said. President of the World Cup organizing committee was then Franz Beckenbauer, Wolfgang Niersbach one of his deputies.

According to “mirror” information to the former Adidas chief Robert Louis-Dreyfus have borrowed 13 million marks as a private citizen to the bidding committee. The money should have been used according to the report, in order to win the four votes. Louis-Dreyfus said to have then reclaimed the sum of one and a half years before the World Cup in Germany. In April 2005, then had 6.7 million euros paid by the Organising Committee of the Fifa – allegedly for the cultural program, with the at that time almost 50 cultural projects were supported around the World Cup. As part of a multi-million dollar orientation of the biggest single sporting event in the world that is not uncommon. But by FIFA is further flowed to Louis-Dreyfus the money.

The payment of 6.7 million euros grant the DFB and also that they “may not have been used in accordance with the stated purpose”. There run an internal audit, what happened concretely with the money. In its press release the evening of Association referred to the fees charged by the “mirror” allegations as “completely baseless allegations” and versichertet, there had been in connection with the World Cup bid in the DFB no “slush fund”. “Equally significantly, the Association occupied by any facts conclusions the authors back, it had been bought in this context votes for the World Cup award”, it said literally. Therefore one stop “explicitly states that, accordingly, neither the DFB president nor the other members of the organizing committee to be involved in such operations or were to know basis”.
