Golf veteran Bernhard Langer loves the Masters. The first major tournament of the year the 58-year-old in Augusta playing time being on strong and it also shows many young professionals. Last year’s winner Jordan Spieth makes again hunt for the “green jacket”.

For his old love it takes Bernhard Langer also like to with the gusty wind in the Augusta National Golf Club. For the 33rd time the 58-year-old is at the Masters in the State of Georgia at the start.

Long loves to play on the beautiful and challenging par-72 course at the Magnolia Lane. “I fought hard today,” the Masters champion said from 1985 to 1993 after his opening round. And that could once again see blank: with 72 blows of the veteran was at the end of the day in 21st place – on par with the Australian world number First Jason Day

has the very first day of the 80th Masters. the senior from Anhausen proved again that it is not only on youth, strength and length of lay in the Gulf. With his years of experience Langer knows exactly how he has to play this course with all its pitfalls. He knows the places where the ball must land on the fairways and greens. At the beginning of the round, he had not yet found the landing points. After eleven holes Langer was three shots over par. Then he took the measure, beat near his approach shots to the hole and made with strong birdies on holes 13, 14 and 15, the shock losses up for it.

Long dominated since years the Champions Tour the over-50s in the US. 26 tournaments he won in seniors already. But here at the Masters, where he enjoys it a lifelong right to start a two-time winner, he takes it always happy with his much younger colleagues. Although he lacks the length, “but that’s just the challenge,” Langer said. “I have to play here very intelligent.” For a time, no longer be measured by the Spieth, Days and McIlroy in the world, who lives in Florida Langer not seen for a long time.

Germany’s best golfer Martin Kaymer had like the Masters experience of Bernhard Langer. The 31-year-old starts with slight problems in his ninth tournament at the Magnolia Lane. With 74 strokes he ended his first round and was thus at the shared 43rd place. The two-time major winner had difficulty “assessing the wind, because it was very gusty”. Nevertheless, the professional from Mettmann was with his performance not dissatisfied.

A love for Augusta National has not yet set in Kaymer over the years. The course is it just not really. On many holes he has to fight his natural swing feeling. Five times he left here already prematurely. it is easier not become in the past nine years, said Kaymer, “which does not mean that you can not play a good round here”.

How to import low on this golf course results, white last year’s winner Jordan Spieth. The US star made on the first day the first step to defend their title. The 22-year-old Texan took a strong 66er Round equal leadership and remade hunting to the second “Green Jacket”. After strong opening Spieth was two strokes ahead of New Zealand Danny Lee and Shane Lowry of Ireland. Also Spieth seems to love the Augusta National.
