Spectacle at the top, an ordeal for Martin Kaymer: At Masters of golfers in America Augusta manages Germany’s number one as well as Bernhard Langer made the cut. Front fights, meanwhile the defending champion against the favorites.

Martin Kaymer had once more tremors, Bernhard Langer played with the calm and routine of a two-time Masters champion. In completely different ways, the two German golf professionals have made the cut at the Masters in Augusta. “I have played the course well. But I just lose too many strokes on the greens, which is the main problem,” complained Kaymer when he came into the clubhouse after a 75er round.

With a total score of 149 he was after two rounds at Augusta National Golf Club five shots over par – and knew at that point not yet know whether that would be enough. This feeling knew the Rhinelander already from previous years. This was followed by restless hours, waiting, trepidation – but ultimately came through Kaymer. The dividing line was six strokes over par. Thus the two-time Major winner must now knock at his ninth start in Augusta for the fourth time at the weekend. Kaymer is 47th on the par 72 course – chances to win he has no more, but his best result to date – number 31 -. From 2014 he could still polish

” I would of course like to the forefront “

However, Germany’s number one does in Augusta again difficult. Although he has changed his swing because of the demanding course in the US state of Georgia a few years ago, in order to play as the Augusta priority discontinued after left lanes better Kaymer finds no rhythm. On the tracks 13, 15, and 16 he had the ball only a few meters einlochen – but every time he played the putt a little too aggressive and cashed promptly each one bogey. “In other tournaments fall into and da haste then three, four strokes less on the scorecard.”

Quite different was the mood at Langer. In contrary winds of 58-year-old played in all his experience. On a day since the third round in 2007 was no less than 70 beats first, Langer was 73 an excellent result – and ultimately even a stroke better than runner Jordan Spieth. “From playing ago that one of my best rounds was in recent years”, the Anhausener said satisfied. Langer is in 15th rank before him players who are at least 18 and as Spieth as 36 years younger. As the German example in 1993 for the second time won the Masters, Spieth was not even born. Nevertheless Langer has contact with the top ten and wants to attack. “I would of course like to the forefront. To do that, I have to continue to be very, very good play, and punch a few putts.”

At the top there is the showdown of superstars, the fans, managers and TV stations could wish for. Defending Spieth is with 140 beats just before the Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy (141). Together, the two four of the past six majors have won – and together they go to the third round. The Americans could Spieth as the fourth player to defend his Masters title. McIlroy again missing after his victories at the US Open, British Open and the PGA Championship, only the Triumph in Augusta to create the sixth professional Grand Slam.
