After dramatic hours in Zurich the International Football Association is about to elect a new president – who will be most likely the old. Joseph Blatter, despite all the criticism can shake off the calls for his resignation. UEFA and DFB need to feel superior to a new strategy to defeat the unpopular Swiss.

How did Fifa boss Joseph Blatter yet again managed to be able to simply reject a resignation?

The situation appeared in the meantime actually precarious for Blatter. But in the end had to go just follow his unerring instinct and do everything as always the man of power: Only silence, then appease and finally declare themselves a problem solver who will eliminate the enemies of football and FIFA family. His ties to friends in Africa and Asia are so strong that little can happen to him. Justify it must be just before docile electorate, not before the outraged world opinion.

Why has the Uefa not done their boycott threat?

UEFA tip to Michel Platini simply lacked the necessary support in their own association. Russia’s multi-functionary Vitaly Mutko and Spaniard Angel Maria Villar Llona are close Blatter friends and will probably vote even for the Swiss. They would not have supported a boycott. So Platini had to back-pedal. But eventually won the insight that a boycott ultimately the Uefa would harm himself. Cleavage of the Fifa can not be in the interest Platini.

How seriously the threats of a boycott of the World Cup Uefa boss Platini?

There’s a lot functionary drumming here. Platini has distracted from his defeat in the boycott issue and uphold the pressure on Blatter. Only he can take the next stitch against the Swiss at the expected continuation of the power struggle of the football alpha animals after the Congress. The Frenchman has indeed often surprised with the implementation abstruse acting ideas – as in the Pan-European Championship 2020 – but a world boycott or a withdrawal of all Europeans from the Fifa ExCo is an unimaginable escalation

What is the role DFB president Wolfgang Niersbach in the Fifa drama?

Niersbach has placed on Platini’s side early. In Fifa ExCo he is thus automatically an opponent Blatter. The thought of a waiver of the Fifa official, as announced by the Englishman David Gill is Niersbach uncomfortable. He also feels the call of the DFB to represent German football. With one exception (1998 to 2002) is the largest sports federation in the world is represented in the major committee since 1968. Niersbach know: figures he can make a change in Fifa better if he sits with at the controls. Although the great opponent holds it in his hands.
